Rev Richard Hayton

Senior Pastor

Biography

What are my responsibilities? According to scripture my main responsibility is to build the body up to do works of service, not to attempt to do everything by myself. In practice this means helping each person that is part of the church to discover their gifting in God and to help encourage, empower, equip and release them into their calling.  This means operating in a team leadership role helping to impart vision and purpose for the church overall. Some of the ways that I do this is by preaching, teaching and leading in prayer most weeks. I also help oversee the various ministry areas of the church ably assisted by a team of deacons that also have responsibility for ensuring every area is prayerfully and carefully attended to. This is only a brief overview of my responsibilities.

How long have I been an SHBC member? I have been a member of the church and Senior Minister since 1st April 2016, having previously served as Minister of a church in Kent for 22 years.

What do I love about SHBC? The genuine love, care and acceptance of all regardless of background.

My wife Diane and I have been married for more than 36 years and we have three grown up children and four young grandchildren and a fifth on the way! I love meeting people and socialising and listening to peoples personal stories. To relax my wife and I love to walk our dog, watch tv, listen to music and entertain. I also love most sports and watch football and attempt to play golf, cricket and go to the gym when time allows.

Testimonials

Thanks May and Pauline for a really good Family Service on Sunday 23rd October; it was informative and challenging, included young and older members of the congregation, the worship was great, and included an excellent (if shortened!) message from Pastor Richard on the subject of OUR dreams. And the dedication of Delson and Ester’s son, James Feliciano Perreirra too - brilliant!

Testimonials

I found this community at a time in my life when I was really hurting. I walked in the doors, and felt like I had just come home! I was welcomed with warmth, and encouragement, and friendship.
