Biography

What are my responsibilities?

Well I am definitely NOT responsible for tablecloths and curtains! My job is to look after the Church building and its contents. This involves receiving any reports/comments from Church members about problems or damage involving the building, then if it can’t be fixed by myself or the few handy persons within the membership, I organise tradesmen or women to do the necessary work (I have a long list!). I also often field suggestions of improvements or replacements from members.
I make sure there are supplies of the correct paint colours and types that we use to maintain the appearance of the rooms within the church, plus the required brushes and equipment, and sometimes organise work-parties to redecorate areas I consider within our capabilities.
I am the line-manager for the Cleaners, keep their supplies of cleaning materials (and toilet rolls!) stocked up, and get the vacuum-cleaners mended when needed.
Because of the above I find myself handing receipts into the office for repayment fairly frequently. I also tend to have ideas for Gift Days! We have a building that is about 150 years old and there is usually something that needs attention.

How long have I been a SHBC member?

I have been a member for 42 years since arriving from Devon with my then fairly new husband!
What I love about SHBC?

It has always been a warm, welcoming congregation of God’s people, trying to express His love.

Testimonials

Thanks May and Pauline for a really good Family Service on Sunday 23rd October; it was informative and challenging, included young and older members of the congregation, the worship was great, and included an excellent (if shortened!) message from Pastor Richard on the subject of OUR dreams. And the dedication of Delson and Ester’s son, James Feliciano Perreirra too - brilliant!

Testimonials

I found this community at a time in my life when I was really hurting. I walked in the doors, and felt like I had just come home! I was welcomed with warmth, and encouragement, and friendship.
