Deacon – Projects

Biography

What are my responsibilities?

The church has a number of projects which involve working in the community. My responsibility is not to organise them all, but encourage and be the contact for them if they have particular needs.

  • Crossroads goes out to the homeless twice a week. This is organised by Rob Newman.
  • Gilgal is a domestic violence refuge set up over twenty years ago through a vision given to the church. I am a director of the Refuge.
  • The Drop In Centre operates on a Wednesday morning and has a footfall of around 800 people a yea. I organise this with a small team of dedicated volunteers. It has become a place well known in the area and a popular resource to help our neighbours. It has also been a place which has attracted folk who are interested in the faith.

We also support a number of African projects; in Uganda, Swaziland and Malawi .

Testimonials

Thanks May and Pauline for a really good Family Service on Sunday 23rd October; it was informative and challenging, included young and older members of the congregation, the worship was great, and included an excellent (if shortened!) message from Pastor Richard on the subject of OUR dreams. And the dedication of Delson and Ester’s son, James Feliciano Perreirra too - brilliant!

Testimonials

I found this community at a time in my life when I was really hurting. I walked in the doors, and felt like I had just come home! I was welcomed with warmth, and encouragement, and friendship.
